The Far East College of Harbin University of Science and Technology (the FECHUST) is one of the first approved independent colleges by the Heilongjiang provincial government, confirmed and filed by the Ministry of Education. Upholding the tradition of rigorous scholarship of Harbin University of Science and Technology, developing the FECHUST’s employment-oriented managing spirit, and innovating and striving for excellence, the FECHUST has become a dynamic independent undergraduate college with special features and based on advanced and innovative managing ideas and models. The FECHUST mainly takes undergraduate education for students from all over the country, under the unified planning of nation-wide enrollment.
　　Now the FECHUST covers an area of 30 hectares, teaching and administrative buildings and students’ living quarters being nearly 180,000 square meters. The old campus is in the downtown of Harbin. It has a history of more than 50 years and profound European cultural heritage and it is beautiful with exotic trees and fragrant flowers. The new campus is at the beautiful north part of the Songhua River in Harbin adjacent to many universities and colleges. There are some modern architectures of European style, Korean style and Japanese style. Integrate teaching and living facilities provide warm and comfortable learning and living conditions for the students in the school. The college has training bases in Shanghai, Tianjin, Mudanjiang City.
　　The leadership of the board of trustees is implemented in the FECHUST with the president in charge. There are nine departments and two sections including: the Department of Electronic Information Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Computer and Control System, the Department of Economics and Management, Department of Art and Design, the Educational Department of Chinese Language for Foreigners, the Department of Korean, the Department of English, the Department of Japanese; the Section of Basic Education and the Section of PE; totally 22 majors and 33 specialties. It’s of four-year undergraduate academic system. In September 2008, the students in this college will be 6,000 Teaching resources the FECHUST are ample with a staff of 288. Most of the teachers are the excellent ones of the University of Science and Technology and those of our own. We also hire professors and foreign teachers who have both the latest knowledge in special fields and abundant practice experience. Now we have 200 full-time teachers and about 130 part-time teachers. The professors, associate professors and the teachers with Master’s degrees make up 80 percent of all the members.
　　The FECHUST sticks to ideas of innovating and striving for excellence in running the college. It lays great importance on establishing a campus culture, including the culture of ideology, action, and material, which becomes a characteristic culture system of the college.

　　The FECHUST attaches importance to the quality, special features, and development. The college adheres to the employment-oriented principle and focuses on training qualified personnel for foreign enterprises in China especially the Korean companies. The Korean department started early, and it is now the largest Korean department of all the universities. The college adopts the combined mode of education, that is, majors’ teaching and foreign Languages’ teaching (Korean language as a second language) to enhance the overall competitive strength of the graduates in the talent market. The college first opened the practice teaching section abroad in the province to broaden their horizons and improve their working environment of foreign enterprises and the ability to adapt to the requirements of the work. The College focuses on training the students ‘practical ability. The laboratory and simulation conditions training base have been established to cope with the actual condition, especially in science and engineering professional cooperation between the introductions of school-enterprise training mode. It improves the students’ practical ability. The college exchanges and cooperates with the International Education, such as many universities in South Korea, Japan, Europe and the United States and it is becoming one of the energetic institutions of the province.
　　The FECHUST pays attention to teaching quality and tries to set up the special features hard. Years of painstaking work has brought about great successes. The outstanding teacher's troop headed by famous teachers is strong, and the new outstanding teachers spring up constantly. The rate of qualified students is increasing constantly.. Some graduates with outstanding results have been admitted to the post graduate school. Employment rate reaches 90 percent, and the employing units are very satisfied with our students, satisfaction rate being 85 percent. A large number of students passed the certification by the state departments of the declaration, accounting for posts permits, and other related professional qualification certificates. The Electrical and Mechanical students came out the third place in college students mathematical modeling contest, and the first in the three northeast provinces contest; Department of Art and Design got the second and third good results in provinces and cities National Ice Carving Competition respectively; English Department, Japanese Department and External Chinese Teaching Department will carry out the plan of fostering talents for Korean, Japan and English speaking countries mainly focusing on fostering the external Chinese Teachers according to the needs of the international market.
